Origin
A father, a son, and the Northern Cape
Petri Minerals began with field trips into South Africa’s Northern Cape — long roads, dry light, and informal roadside markets where people sell crystals and mineral specimens from tables and bakkies.
Petri and his father are learning as they go: mineralogy, geology, identification, provenance, valuation, and how the mineral trade actually works. This site is not a claim of expertise. It is a place to present selected specimens carefully, keep honest notes, and build a record over time.
The aim is simple. Give interesting material a clearer route to collectors who understand its value, document what is known (and what is not), and share value with the people specimens are sourced from — without turning that into a charity story or publishing private arrangements.
If the project lasts, the archive of specimens, field notes, and regional knowledge may become something more substantial: a trusted reference for minerals from the Orange River and wider Northern Cape. Credibility will come from the consistency of that record, not from claims made at the beginning.
